Founded in 2013, OFPT is an electrical engineering consulting company based out of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.  We specialize in:

Underground Transmission​

  • Transmission line condition based cable assessments, long term studies and decommissioning.

  • Maintenance and operation of Oil Filled Pipe Type Cables (OFPT) includes; dissolved gas analysis, pipeline cathodic protection systems, inspections, pump plant operation, sensitive leak detection systems.

  • Underground transmission OFPT lifecycle and capital replacement projects, splice and termination replacements, cable reroutes, manhole design, backfill requirements, thermal dissipation studies.

  • OFPT technical specifications and work procedures pipe and freeze coil procedures, welding specifications, 

  • AESO regulatory filings, information requests, scheduling power outages

  • Utility right of way applications, permits, crossing agreements, easements and sensitive environmental area approvals

  • Concrete encased ductline and manhole design

  • Horizontal directional drill crossings

  • Critical spare inventory of cable, splice kits, terminations, potheads, pipe

  • Commissioning & testing including: vacuum & drop tests, DC Hipot, paper sampling and degree of polymerization testing, tape coat jacket testing, pipe ultrasonic UT, weld dye penetration testing, x-ray & partial discharge testing.

Industrial Oil & Gas

  • Electrical engineering team lead and design

  • Coordination with multiple engineering disciplines for new greenfield and/or existing projects. 

  • Major electrical equipment procurement including: transformers, circuit breakers, 5kV switchgear, 600V MCC's, emergency diesel generators, low voltage distribution panels, lighting contactor panels, E&C buildings, PLC panels

  • Issue for review and construction drawing packages with site and key plans, layouts, area classifications, low and medium voltage motor control centre switchgear single lines, schematics and wiring diagrams, communication overviews/block diagrams, panel layouts, PLC loop diagrams, cable schedules

  • Load lists, power systems protection setting and arc flash studies, lighting calculations, raceway fill, heat trace calculations
